Lyon, France December 2005

O Home

Lyon, the second largest Metropolitan area in France, is home to Game Connection, the event Jen works for. She and Lynne traveled there the first week of December so Jen could work and Lynne could take in the history. We were lucky enough to be there for the Lumiere, the Festival of Lights, and enjoyed the light shows because of it. It was, however, 1 degree Celsius, so we recommend Lyon in the summer...

We flew through Brussels -- cool airport

Our hotel, the Reine Astrid, was quite nice

The water closet -- it really is a closet

City Hall

This fountain was designed by the same man who designed the Statue of Liberty

Fourvier, at the top of the hill that overlooks the city, is a beautiful cathedral

Dedicated to Mary, who spared the city from cholera in the 1800s

Next to Fourvier, looking out over the city

Opera House

Lyon was the capital of Gaul, and the Romans ruled here for centuries

The ruins are extensive and impressive

Lyon is reknown for its silk industy

A much older, more humble church, St. Jean, dates from the 1500s

It contains this astrological clock
